Issue. Some people think that Newspaper Companies do not always provide good articles because of managerial problems related to offering their articles for free on the Internet. Do you agree with this?

No, I don't agree with this. But I'm not to say they always provide good articles. I'd say before I experienced Wikipedia, I did believe that articles written by those Internet Newspapers cannot help depending on the advertisement, contribution or something like that. But these days, not a few Newspaper Companies based on the internet are becoming the popular social hubs for every general publics. Those internet newspapers are represented by Wikipedia, Ohmynews, Blogger and stuff like that. Even though they're all nonprofit organizations, we can see a variety of the freshest news through them. Countless of netizens continuously write news and those news are gone through thousands of revisions by other netizens. I mean, everyone is editor. Some are experts but others are not. So if someone first write a news on those web sites, many people add more information about it and fix it. You know those series of group activities make a good news. That's why there's no advertisement on the wikinews or twitter.
A news can be made by many people who're willing to share their own idea, data or something. And Since the mechanism of those internet newspaper closely resemble in Democracy, most of the case they're pretty reliable and convincing. Like what....Google. Google pursues an open source. It's called group intelligence.

1. Which section do you have the greatest interest in when you read newpapers?

Since I'm a car fanatic, a section I always look at the most carefully is a car and technology. Actually I'm subscribing three kinds of car magazines monthly. In additoin, I'm following some reporters and journalists of famous car magazines on twitter.

2. Do Koreans have a lot of interest in current issues?

Yes, wo do. As you know, Korea is known for its the highest level of high-speed Internet penetration in the world, so just about every Korean is really familiar to read the recent articles on the internet whoever he/she is very young or very old. So it is very natural for us to share personal ideas about current issues on the internet. For example, the number of users of twitter and cyworld is almost 40 million which is nine tenth of total population of South Korea.

3. If you want to spread your opinion quickly, what is the best way to tell the public?

For starters, I'm gonna write a mention on twitter, and then link it to my blog. By posting my opinion on my blog, I can express my own point of view about something very effectively. Plus I'll send a feed to many popular metablogs and social internet web sites like Facebook, Cywold, Wikinews, Lockerz like that. You know what, if I can expose my idea to just ten persons on twitter, almost half million people can read it. So I'd say it's the quickest way to spread my own opinion to others. Most of all, it's free! All I have to do is just to type a keyboard and click a mouse. And these days, I can quickly share my opinion more than ever with my smart phone.

Issue. Some poeple argue that an arranged marriage is better than a love match. Do you agree with this?

Yes, I agree with this. An unarraged marriage uaually causes some problems that are really hard to overcome during married life, like financial unstability or something like that. So it's really obvious it's so important to prepare marriage in terms of financial stability or spritual health.
I mean, love is the most essential factor for marriage, yet if we want to have a "happily-ever-after" life, to a certain extent, we should be financially stable. I'd say any factor is not a completely ignorable factor, so I think that's why getting married is kind of difficult these days.

1. Where did you get married? If you are not married yet, where would you want to have your marriage ceremony?

Since I'm a Catholic, I'd like to have my marriage ceremony at the Church. But it can be changed according to who my marriage partner will be in the future. I want to get married with my partner under the god's blessing. But these days not a few women in Korea only stick to have a marriage ceremony at a place which is full of vanity and fancy....like what.... very luxurious hotel or something. I think it's just mundane, boring thing everybody wants to do. When I see persons who madly look for very expensive place for their own marriage ceremony, I even think that they want to marry for the purpose of not congratulating their marriage, but showing their extravagant wedding ceremony to others.

2. Why are there so many match-making companies thriving in Korea?

Well actually I don't understand why people make their marriage partners with that companies, even though a personal choise is the most important. Anyway I just vaguely assume that is one of the flows of capitalism, called specializing. You know, in a capitalized economy many fields has been being departmentalized and each member of society has been being specialized in their own skills or jobs. Actually departmentalizing and specializing can bring a synergy effect. So in that regard, people are shifting their jobs related to marriage onto the match-making companies.

3. What is the most important criteria to choose your marriage partner?

I'm human too, and foremost, I'm a man so I do like a pretty woman. But I'm tend to figure out this and that when I choose my marriage partner. For example, positive mind, same religion with me, a family like that. So I can say I'm a little picky boy.
But you know what, the girls who I've ever met so far were not completely matched my ideal type. I've usually fallen in love with a girl unconsciously, I mean, I cannot help being charmed with love even though she was not my ideal type. I'd say "Love has always blinded me." You know it's called "Bean pods are on the eyes." in Korea.

Issue. Your company or school will prohibit using disposable cups to reduce the use of disposable products. Do you agree with this?

Yes, I agree with this. I think by using a personal mug or something like a non-disposable cup, the company or school might be obtain a cost saving on purchasing disposable cups. And foremost, we can expact the effect of the protection of the environment. Although stop using disposable paper cups would be a sort of annoying thing, you know, by doing so we can protect the environment. I've ever see a statistic about the proportion of the paper cup at the total amount of wood pulp. It takes almost half of whole wood pulp. So if we stop using the disposable cups, we don't have to log more trees and can protect the environment.

1. What is a way to decrease the use of disposable products?

Most of all, we should know that disposable product really harm the environment. But these days, we've already been familiar to using them in daily life, so it seems to be obvious that it's impossible to halt them right now. So I'd say to decrease the use of disposable products, government have to introduce tight regulations on the companies producing them and prohibit stocking deposable goods at all public institutions and markets. And in the meantime, government should advertise frequently about using personal mug cups like that instead of the disposable products.

2. Where are the most disposable products used?

You know, I go to a fitness center everyday. And I think that fitness center is where the disposable products are used most. During working out at the fitness center, all people constantly drink water with a water purifier. The problem is that everyone use a new disposable paper cup almost every time they want to drink water. So the garbage cans of the fitness center are always full of pater cups.

3. What do you do to protect your earth and the environment?

You know, the more our society gets developed, the more we get familiar to use products which are produced through the more complicated manufacturing process. And every steps of the manufacturing has its own external expense, for instance, water pollution caused by producing semiconductors like that. That's the reason why many people insist that technology is inompatble with the environment. The obsessive-compulsive technological development has made us forget teh way to get rest enough and nature environment as well. So to protect the environment we have to think of the way we can rest properly. By doing so, we can make nature turn up the swich of natral purification. But, its such a shame that many politicians and companies stick to develope a technology to cure the environment.

Issue. Some people think buying imitation designer labeled goods is effective in terms of cost saving. Do you agree with this?

No, I don't agree. When we discuss about imitation, it might not be important that whether it's illegal or not for each indivisual. Most of all, purchasing imitation is a matter of each person's tastes. So to judge this totally depends on indivisuals. But just about every imitation designer labeld goods has very law quality. Since they are made up of law qualitied materials, they're not very durable. So before long we will get to know that we have to throw away them and eventually we cannot help regreting about what we purchased imitations.

1. Are you the kind of person who has designe brands?

Yes. Since basically I'm a human too, and foremost, I really sick of using imitations, most items in my closets and shoe rack are honest goods. But I'm not to say I have a strong vanity or something. I'd say I deeply know that buying imitation designer labeled goods is not cost saving but waste of money. Most of the case, they have a low quality.

2. What do you think about the people who have a lot of designer brands items?

Well, it's not bad. Because it all depends on each personal's choices. Whatever they stick to a designer brand item ot not, it would be fine if they feel good by purchasing something. But there're some people who always try to purchase only designer brand items, even though they can't afford their hig price. Furthermore, they sometimes take out a private loan to buy the expensive designer brand items like Prada, GUCCI and stuff like that. You know most of them will eventually suffer from a large amount of the debt. Speaking of which, let me introduce a little amazing stroy about that. I read an article that there are some people who are willing to sell their kidney to buy Hermes's back.

3. Some people argue that an unconditional preference for designer brands is related to a person's false consciousness. What do you think about this?

I totally agree with that idea. We can easily see those types of persons in some movies or soap operas like "Devile Wears Prada" and "Sex and the City".
Of course, it's true that a lot of designer brand goods are more beautiful and gorgeous than imitations or non-designer brand labeled itmes, but these days most buyers more consider about its label or an expansive price tag, instead of its quality. I'd say that can be called a person's false consciousness. Many people buy expensive designer brand goods to show off their wealth or something like that to others. And to be honest, when I see those people, I feel really disgusting. In that regard, the reason why many youngsters daydream to buy expensive cars like Mercedes-benz, Ferrari like that is same.

Issue. One opinion argues that the annual salary should be the top priority when you choose your job. Do you agree with this?

No, I don't agree with this. I think the best job is one you find yourself enjoying, and being good at. Even if the annual salary is also very crucial, it shouldn't be the top priority when you choose your job. In addition, a job is one of the major issues related to the genuine happiness of our lives, so when we choose our job the first thing we should do is to find out what we really want to do, and whether a job will let us happy or not. Let me assume an extreme case about that. Some people consider money as the top value in their lives, so some of them occationally fall into temptation of the black money.

1. What are the conditions of the most ideal job?

As I said a minute ago, the best job is one related to what you can enjoy throughout your life, what you've wanted to do since old times and stuff like that. If you choose those kinds of jobs, you can obtain more exellent results. Furthermore, a good money is one of the accompanying factors according to your exellent results in most of the cases.

2. What is the most special job you have ever heard of?

The most special job I've ever heard of was an astronaut. Have you ever heard of the first Korean astronaut or the first Korean spaceship like that? You know, thses days Korean government began to get down to invest money on a space development. And last year, the first Korean astronaut was selected coming through a competition of more than 100,000 to 1 as part of the national space development. In that regard, her occupation is really meaningful for every Korean and she would be remembered the first Korean astronaut who could see the earth from the outside in the space. That's really awesome job, isn't it?

3. What do you think is the most promising job of the future?

I strongly believe the most promising job in the near future is one related to IT and eco-friendly technology. You know what. These days the special needs about smart electric appliances like iPhone is skyrocketing. Before long, the market about a semiconductor or an electric display pannel is tremendously increasing. At the same time, the social and technological issue about enviromentally friendly technologies would come to the fore. So I can say that a job allied nano-tech, cumputer programming and constructing social network in the web is the most promising job of the future.
In addition, since those kinds of industrial fields are unparalleled in human's history, they can called, "Most powerful Blueoceans" that we've never seen before.

Shamanism

English writings/Topics 2010. 5. 12. 10:56 |

Issue. Some people think it is important for them to get married on the day chosen for them by a Shaman. Do you agree with this?

Since I don't really believe those kinds of shamanism, palm reading, tarot cards and stuff like that, I don't consider those like unscientific issues when I make a choice, especially for getting married.
But some Koreans still think that it's really crucial for them to get married on the day chosen for them by a shaman, you know. I think it's because it is really hard to forcast our future exactly by ourselves, particulary these days. You know the world is becoming more complex than before. So people try to relieve our burden of makina a choice by shifting our responsibility of choice to a shaman. So this is my own point of view. I'd say, if someone is able to feel more comfort by visiting a shaman, it would be better for him/her than excluding it, and vice-versa.

1. Please explain the Korean female shaman. What do they do?

As for the Korean female shaman, I really hate her actually. You know what, the majority of Korean shamans insist that they can deeply communicate ghosts, demons and spirits. They usually say to naive persons that all their misfortun or unhappiness just come from the bad ghost possessing them. And at the same time, they insist that he/she need strong charms or amulets to eliminate a bad spirit and ask large amount of money for their work about the exorcist. Isn't it sound like so weird? I mean, they just earn money by using people's basic weekness of mind. I hate that point you know.

2. Why do people want to see the fortune-teller?

As I mentioned before, we all have our own week points in our minds. I mean, we all have a instict that we want to shift our responsibility of choice to someone else. In addition, we can be a little happy by hearing some sweet words from a shaman. So that't why people want to see the fonture-teller.

3. Do you think that shamanism will disappear due to the development of science, or will it continue on?

Well, I think so. I'd say, the more the science will be developed, the more difficult we make a choice or judge something whether it's right or not. So the number of people who believe superstition won't be decreased in the future. And the type of shamanism might be really various in the future becuase if there is a person wants to believe superstition, there is also a person who use this as an way to earn money. So in this regard, a shamanism can become like a company in the near future, anyway. For example, one of the Korean biggest leading companies, named Samsung has chosen the location of their head office according to the theory of divination based on topography.

태양이 바다에 미광을 비추면,나는 너를 생각한다.

Issue. The Australian government has been keeping a tight policy to limit water usage because of a severe lack of water cuased by climate change. Would you agree if the Korean government brings in this policy?

Yes, I totally agree with this. Like the case of Korea that most civilians can't recognize the importance of saving water source, this policy would help the general public reducing extra water consumption at some degree. Many Korean usually waste too much water in many fields like taking a long shower, washing the dishes or something, even if  they've already learned  that we all have to save water. It's because most Korean consider the water as what they can buy with just money.  And this kind of generally accepted idea is hard to be changed because we're all living under the capitalism. We should know water is really essential and if we keep using water excessively, natural environment will be lifethreatening. So by introducing strict policy on limit water usage, I guess we can save a large amount of water consumpsion effectively.

1. Do you think that people really can forecast the weather exactly?

No, I don't. Although we can relatively forecast the weather of the near future compared to before, it's still true that we cannot exactly know the crazy weahter variation these days. You know the more human develops the world, the more the climate change is complex and unpredictable. So we have to dicuss about the eco-friendly way to develop our civilization. I mean, we have to find the way we can co-exist the narual environment as soon as possible. Before long, we would face the most terrible natural disaster that we've never experienced before without doubt.

2. Explain the characteristics of Korea's four seasons.

Korea has four district seasons. And each season has its own clear climate characteristics. Spring is from March to May. It's really warm, I mean, the average temperature of spring season is 15℃ or so. It's my favorite season. Summer starts from June to August. As you know, since Korea's summer is also really hot, the average temperature of summer is about 30℃. And there're a few times of mosoon(heavy rain) during summer of Korea. Autume is from September to October and the average temperature is about 10℃. In fall, most trees and mountains change their color, I mean, you can see the maple in this season. And finally winter starts from November to February. Korean winter is so cold these days, so the average temperature of winter is -5℃ or so.
But lately, we don't seem to have spring and fall. The weather is exactly hot and cold. I think it all has to do with climate change.

3. What is the easiest way for you to protect the environment from polution?

Well, actually I don't konw. I usually think of the way I can protect the environment from polution, eventually I always get to know that I cannot protect the environment just alone. So to be honest, I don't know exactly what the easiest way to protect the environment damaged on a global scale. I just vaguely assume that we need to do something altogether to protect it, and in that regard, the government policy on it is really important. Oh, so all I have to do is to cast my vote to a right politician anyway.... How do you think about it?

1. Think about one of the teachers you like. What does he or she look like? How about his or her personality? Describe him or her in as much detail as possible.

My favorite teacher ever is Mr. Jhin my high school who taught psychology and ethics to students. Actually he is a priest. You know my high school is run by Catholicism foundation, so an holy father is in charge of the education about morals and counseling for students. And when I was in high school, there was an open class twice per a week that he and students discuss about likf, genune value, love, friendship and stuff like that. He is in his early fifties. He is a good laugher so when I meet him, I usually become pleasent. I can say even if he is a cleric, he is a very open-minded person and I consider him as my favorite teacher of life. He always gives me very good precepts that have made me grow as a decent adult.

2. Describe one of your neighbors in detail and tell me how you became acquainted and what you usually do with him or her.

Let me introduce my close friend who lives just one floor up. Ever since my brother and I were young, we have been acquainted with him because he was a son of my father's best friend. In that regard, it was quite natural to become acquainted with together for us. His family and my family have been keeping really close relationship until now. You know, most Koreans have a lot of community spirit. Anyway he is junior to me by three years and to my brother by one year. We are as good as real brothers. His family and my family get together and go on a picnic or go to a restaurant from time to time. And recently his family has moved in a same apartment to my family, so we've become  close neighbors from close friends. We often eat dinner at each families' house by taking turn.

Q. You indicated in the survey that you go to school. What is your favorite class at school? Why do you like this class? Can you tell me about it in detail?

When someone asks about my favorite class at school, I used to say it's Dynamics or Drawing, but now it's Team Project. Until recently, the class that I'm fascinated by the most was Science and I'd studied it just alone. But at the same time, I always afraid that I would reach the limit someday. At that time, I was a little poor at studying together, even if I felt that it would make me overcome the limitations. And then, I decided to attend the Team Project class on the fall semester of my sophomore year. This class deals with product design and its dynamical analysis from not only the engineering but also aesthetic points of views.
In the class, we discuss about recent tech trends related to mechanical engineering and then choose proper mechanism or machines as a topic of the project. After adopting the topic, we decide who does what. Each menber of the team plays their own role in the project. For instance, One is in charge of sketching thumnail ideas about the concept discussed, another plays a role to embody them in  the 3D-models and analysis them with cumputer programs, and other is responsible for making the presentation to display. Since each step is quite specialized in the knowlegde of skills of each member of the team, every steps of the project is important and we should countinuously communicate each other to keep a connection between each step. So first of all, I can learn about a good communication skill. You know that was the most revolutionary change about the way of study in my life that I'd never felft before. Through this class, I could overcome the limit I felt before. I strongly felt that I could gain a big synergy effect by conducting something together. Now I believe that one hundred of fools are always better than one genious. That is to say, I could aware a power of the the group intelligence.
Furthermore, I could experience a real job related to my major field. Evey steps of the project was conducted as the steps of the real company. The professor is well-informed man with brain vision about future trends in this field. So students including me who are engaged in the class can get a fine feedback from the professor.
Most of all, the reason why I like the class is that I could find myself who's totally fascinated in leading each member of the team. Thanks to this, I could regonized that I was fond of being a representative.

I've been redering my service in a local government office for about two years as a public welfare agent. And I'd say I'm a lucky guy about that point. Specifically, I'm working here in the local government office for performing mandatory military service as every Korean young guys has to do. So the type of military I'm engaged in is a little bit different from those of other guys in Korea. In other words, fortunately I'm performing mandatory military service no in the army but in the public welfare center near my home. I can commute between my home and the office everyday by bus, and I just keep five-day workweek. Saturday and Sunday are my free time. So that's why my friends usually call me I'm a very luck person.

The office I work for is a small sized local government office called "Dong office." It is located near my home and I can commute directly by bus. This local government office is in charge of the welfare, permission of public constructions, civil complaints and stuff like all those related to public service of my hometown. This office belongs to the city hall of my hometown. Here in this office, I'm not in charge of any kind of certain job. I just assist some government officials of this office. That is to say, I'm actually in charge of miscellaneous chores of my office. For instance, cleaning the office, moving heavy stuff or something. That is, I'm an errand boy of this office. You know what. That uncomfortable situation's always made me get stressed out. This has been always about my identiy problem. I think it's just a waste of time and energy to work here as a public welfare agent. From my own point of view, I'm a public welfare agent in name only.
